We have always been told to look on a brighter side but the darkness Covid 19 brought, dimmed every possible light that came through .However, we cannot turn a blind eye on littlest positivity it has brought.
The most important of all, it made us realise how life is above everything else. It made us value and be grateful to little things that we paid no heed to otherwise, like the air we breathe or the bread we eat. When the whole world was collectively finding ways to live through this dreadful time, Sikkim too saw its people evolve for good. Here are few positive things COVID 19 brought about in 2020.
Barren lands were turned into paddy fields
The year 2020 saw otherwise arid barren land of Sikkim, drenched once again with man-made streams when people were left with nothing to do. Some did farming to kill their boredom and some from the fear of probable dreadful famine that would follow after lockdown .There were very few enthusiastic farmers left in state who would foster rice every year because the government has been providing low priced ration for years.
Little did we know that such harrowing times would compel people to overcome their laze and do farming instead. People were drawn to poultry farming, bee keeping, gardening, dairy farming and so much more that certainly made the state’s environment more clean. All in all, farming gave hope to people, an escape from an awful year.
Sikkim saw new emerging entrepreneurs more than ever
With the boredom and uncertainty that was encircling around in the darkest year of the decade , our enthusiastic youths started to think of ways to make a living despite all odds. Many of them started venturing into entrepreneurship and they proved to be rather good in it. With the world entering deeply into digital marketing and advertisements, it is very efficient for the young enthusiasts to take advantage of the same and grow for good.
Sikkim too saw such reformation especially among youths who launched their startup in social media platforms and ran it successfully. The thrifting businesses thrived mostly during lockdown and our fellow Sikkimese entrepreneurs were no less than any other entrepreneurs, though new in market. Sikkim saw increase in online delivery business during pandemic . The pandemic no doubt was an opportunity to make ones fortune, moreover, growing entrepreneurs in state is a proof of how effectively the youths seized the opportunity.
The environment became cleaner
When whole world was in verse of great destruction due to climate change , lockdown gave a chance for environment to retreat. The air became fairly cleaner with the industries and vehicles on halt during pandemic. The monsoon hit state on time and therefore, the farmers were overjoyed to foster crops on time. Peacocks were seen dancing on the streets of certain places in the country. Maybe, the environment needed a brief rest after all the exploitation it has been bearing all these years.
It brought unity among people
After so long, the fight wasn’t among two communities, but people as one, against the deadly virus. People were donating their hard earned money to generate funds to fight the deadly virus. There was seen so many helpful hands, try and save migrant workers from hunger and poverty. The pandemic surely made us bend on our knees, but it also inculcated compassion and humanity among people.
