Secretary Horticulture visit field at Allay Ward

Namchi, 5th June(IPR): Secretary, Horticulture Department Mr. M. T Sherpa visited fields at Allay Ward under Maniram Phalidara GPU, today.

He was accompanied by Joint Director(Horticulture) Mr. Dikendra Bhujel, Horticulture Inspector Mr. Nasum Tamang alongwith other field functionaries and staff of the department. The aim of this visit was to assess the horticultural crops in this GPU owing to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

During the field visit, the secretary interacted with the progressive young and educated farmers of the area and enquired about the status of horticulture crops harvested in their fields.

The farmers apprised about various aspects related to cultivation, marketing, distribution as well as management of their produces and the bottlenecks faced by them.

The Secretary encouraged them to continue working with same zeal as being done till date and assured them to extend all support from Department for promotion of horticulture sector.

He also apprised them of pro farmer schemes available with the Government and Government’s willingness to implement the same for doubling their incomes.

In addition, he also reviewed the status of the refrigerated vehicle which has been granted by Government for transportation of local produce for marketing purpose.

Thereafter, he also took stock of the facilities which are under construction such as Cold Storage Unit, Rural Haat and Vegetable collection centre of the area.

It may be noted that the Horticulture Department in collaboration with SIMFED and individual entrepreneurs have continued with marketing of vegetables effectively even during lockdown period.
