Inaugural ceremony of the 7th Himalayan Open Badminton Championship – 2021

The inaugural ceremony of the 7th Himalayan Open Badminton Championship – 2021 commenced with much fanfare and enthusiasm which is being organised by the Badminton Association of Namchi(BAN) at Namchi Indoor Stadium, today.
Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Department Mr Kunga Nima Lepcha graced the occasion as the chief guest. He officially declared the four-day long tournament open.
The inaugural ceremony also had the presence of the Advisor Skills Development Department Mr Satish Chandra Rai and Chairman of the Buildings and Housing Departments Mr Tashi Dorjee Tamang as the guest of honour.
Present amongst others was the Chief Patron of the Tournament cum Political Secretary to Chief Minister Mr Jacob Khaling, Chairman Mr Ganesh Rai along with councillors of NMC, members of BAN, tournament officials, players, coaches and supporters.
The Open Badminton Tournament started from today and shall culminate on November 21, 2021.
Addressing the event, Mr Kunga Nima Lepcha extended his best wishes to all the participants and also applauded the organising members for providing a competitive platform for young talents to hone their skills. He mentioned the government measure taken up to promote and evolve the sports facilities which can help the state in discovering young talents and make a sporting state in the country.
Further, he apprised about the vast scope of sports and encouraged the youths to take up sports as an integral part of their lives through which the players not only help to develop discipline and perseverance but also foster a bond of friendship.
It may be mentioned here that a total of 400 players of various badminton associations from neighbouring states are participating in the said tournament.
